THE WAY AHEAD

Although we as a membership based organisation are totally 'Pan-Disability' we have clearly identified that there are major benefits to be gained by our 'clients' -ie the Sports Council(s) and our customers - 'disabled sports people' with the two development agencies working very much as one on a number of initiatives. This will mean; joint planning, joint funding and joint management in the future..... 1998 onwards.

• YOUNG PEOPLE

  To recruit and induct a new National Junior Sports Officer.
  To complete and submit a National Lottery bid in respect of the NJSP for disabled people.
  Continue to develop and enhance the National Junior Sports Programme.
  To establish junior swimming squads in 8 Regions.
  To work in co-operation with the Youth Sport Trust, The National Coaching Foundation and other relevent organisations.
  To secure long term funding for the following National Junior Championship. Wheelchair Basketball. Athletics. Multi-Sport Games.
  To introduce a National Junior Boccia Championship.
  
  

• TALENT DEVELOPMENT

  To Establish a comprehensive talent identification and development programme and to secure funding for implementaion:

  This will involve working very closely with special schools, other Disability Sport England clubs, local authorities and other partners. We will set in motion a national 'Scouting Programme' and a system of encouragement and support for individuals.

  
  

• COACHING

  To establish a comprehensive coaching and leadership programme and to secure funding for implementation:

  This will involve working with current and prospective coaches, ensuring awareness and understanding of the profile/classification system and therefore creating a knowledge of the performance standards required by persons with varying degrees of disability etc. We will actively encourage our many volunteers to undertake coaching qualifications.

  
  

• NATIONAL GOVERNING BODIES

  To work with specified governing bodies regarding the handing over of National Championships for disabled people.
  To assist and co-ordinate National Governing Bodies of Sport in their efforts to increase opportunities for disabled people.
  To advise and support officers of the English Sports Council, and other NDSO's in their work with National Governing Bodies of Sport in relation to disabled people.
  To produce and collate information, data and reports to support and advise on the future direction and development of opportunities within National Governing Bodies of Sport.
  
  

• LOCAL AUTHORITIES

  To advise and assist local authorities in the formulation of policy documents and promotional material relating to provision and access to facilities and programmes in sport for disabled people.
  To provide practical assistance through Disability Awareness/Equality Training and Coaching/Leadership programmes.
  To provide an information and people resource base linked to our regional club structure.
  To establish/monitor the effctiveness of existing local authority strategies for encouraging participation by disabled people and to offer support and guidance as appropriate.
  
  

• MEMBERSHIP SERVICES

  To review, revise and enhance the current membership scheme and subscription rates.
  To update and maintain a database of clubs, individual members and affiliated organisations.
  To launch a quarterly news letter.
  To update and relaunch the information pack.
  To develop and promote the Barclay Card VIP and similar initiatives throughout the membership.
  To encourage club links with mainstream sports clubs.
  To encourage establishment of junior sections of all clubs.
  
  

• NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP:(Seniors):

  To introduce a National Boccia Championships.
  To review current championships in relation to handover policy to NGB's.
  To secure funding for the current championship programme.
  To complete the review and reprint of our Events Rules and Procedures Manual.
  To recruit and train 10 new Physio's/ Profiling Assessors.
  To undertake coach education/training regarding classifications.
  To encourage more involvement of the appropriate National Governing Body.
  
  

• MANAGEMENT AND ADMINISTRATION:

  To provide strategic guidance and leadership for the overall organistion.
  To bring in-house the direct financial control and accounting of 4 of our Regional Branches.
  To review and update Information Technology both at headquarters and in regions.
  To undertake a comprehensive staff training programme.
  To undertake comprehensive training programme for Directors/Trustees.
  To introduce system of staff performance appraisal.
  To monitor and control expenditure to ensure operation with agreed budgets.
  To review and update the organisations insurance requirements.
  To provide information, advice and support to Regional Branches.
  To recruit and train an additional fundraiser.
  To secure funding to ensure continued viability of organisation.
  To set up and successfully operate a trading company.
